Directed by Isao Takahata, who later founded Ghibli Studio with Miyasaki. The plot is an adaptation of a short novel from the thirties in which a young cellist, not very gifted for music, is visited by several animals in his house whereas voluntarily rehearses to improve. A tender and temperamental film that exudes a sweet moral.
