CABANYAL Z (Jury Award 2016)

Valencia, in the midst of a zombie outbreak. Germán, an infected city worker, joins the resistance in El Cabanyal in search of redemption and survival. Also hiding in the neighborhood is Alicia Fuster, a remorseful scientist who created the chemical weapon that caused the epidemic — and the antidote. From her bunker in the Nou Mestalla stadium, the infected mayor — known as La Jefe — plots to seize the antidote by sending a spy into the resistance. But everything spirals out of control when Germán, driven by guilt and love, steals the antidote to try and bring his zombie wife back to life.
