LUNA DE VALÈNCIA: RADU JUDE. CARICATURANA + AFERIM!

Caricaturana (2021, 9′): Based on an idea by Eisenstein, who dreamed of composing the 101 poses of Robert Macaire, a popular French character who personifies the unscrupulous swindler, as depicted in the 101 lithographs of Honoré Daumier’s Caricaturana series.

Aferim! (2015, 108′): Early 19th century. Costandin, a local policeman, is hired by a boyar to track down Carfin, a gipsy slave who ran away from his property. Costandin begins pursuing the fugitive, thus beginning a black-and-white road movie about Roma slavery in 19th-century Romania.

Radu Jude will visit Valencia to receive the Luna de València award, which acknowledges his contribution to contemporary cinema, and to accompany the retrospective dedicated to his work.
