El ciclo dedicado a los ídolos de la generación Z

The proposal, that will be screen at the Centre del Carme of Contemporary Culture (CCCC), brings together eight recent documentary films that offer an intimate look into the personal and professional lives of various protagonists. The program focuses on music artists such as Charli XCX, Amaia, Bad Gyal, C. Tangana, and the group ZOO, as well as the footballer brothers Iñaki and Nico Williams, the South Korean group BTS, and the Irish rap band Kneecap.

These documentaries show both the achievements and the difficulties of their protagonists, reflecting their efforts to overcome obstacles, their personal connections, and the effects of public exposure. The films depict young individuals who, in many cases, undergo personal transformations while dealing with the pressure of success.

Several of the titles focus on the musical creative process. In Alone Together, Charli XCX documents how she composed her album how i’m feeling now in just 40 days, testing her emotional and creative limits. In Esta ambición desmedida, C. Tangana embarks on creating the most ambitious tour of his career. The documentary follows his journey for over four years, from the conception of the album in Cuba to the staging of the show, with access to rehearsals, intimate celebrations, and the frenetic pace of an international tour.

Una vuelta al sol portrays Amaia’s first professional year, marked by the recording of her album Pero no pasa nada and a deep personal search. The artist juggles piano studies with the experience of becoming independent and traveling to cities like New York and Buenos Aires.

La Joia follows Bad Gyal’s rise as she faces delays with her debut album and the tensions of breaking into the mainstream. The documentary showcases the highs and lows of her evolution as an artist and public figure. Sobreviure a l’incendi spans a decade in the life of the Valencian group ZOO, covering moments of success, crisis, and consolidation.

On the international front, Break The Silence: The Movie offers a portrait of BTS during their Love Yourself: Speak Yourself tour, with behind-the-scenes footage revealing personal aspects of the seven members amidst sold-out concerts in cities like London, New York, and Seoul.

Kneecap is a biopic with a fictional twist, where the members of the Irish rap group play themselves. The film reflects their activism in defending the Gaelic language through music, in an irreverent proposal that has made a big impact in Ireland.

Finally, Los Williams follows Iñaki and Nico Williams over two crucial years of their careers. The documentary addresses issues such as racism, identity, and ambition, showcasing their participation in the World Cup in Qatar—representing different national teams—the historic victory of Athletic Club in the Copa del Rey, and Nico’s success in the Euro Cup. The film reveals a story of overcoming challenges and brotherhood told in the first person.
