Cinema Jove opens with an adaptation for digital natives of “Romeo and Juliet”
  • The Opening Gala will turn the Teatre Principal into a secondary school
  • The Inaugural film will be a reinvention of Romeo and Juliet to the present day

The Inauguration gala of the 36th edition of Cinema Jove will be held tomorrow, Saturday, June 19, at the Teatro Principal, with the screening and premiere in Europe of the Shakespearean classic Romeo and Juliet adaptation to the new digital generations entitled “R#J “.

As usual, the gala is part of a theatrical event, led by the actor and director Jaime Pujol, in which little by little the festival’s contents will be revealed through a storyline of various characters. For the occasion, the characters are high school students facing the last day of the school year. All the plots between them are prior to visiting the Cinema Jove festival.

Reinterpretation of a classic

Carey Williams’ experimental debut feature was well received at Sundance and in the words of Cinema Jove director Carlos Madrid, “it is tremendously attractive in its forms, shots, music and, above all, because it reflects more than any other film what we can see in the current panorama, the way of relating among the youngest ”.

The renewed version of “Romeo and Juliet” incorporates the social networks Tik Tok, Instagram, WhatsApp, Spotify, Facetime and Facebook, and is set in Verona (California).

Access to both the gala and the screening is free but requires an invitation: you can get yours on our online tickets website
